Weather Report

It is the Chinese New Year next week, so it will be busy on Koh Chang then, but for now it's quiet here and you may find some good walk-in prices at most hotels. Since our last update 3 weeks ago, there has been a little rain on some nights, and the days have been partly cloudy, but dry, with little wind, and calm seas. Temperatures have been reaching at least 30 degrees by midday, every day. Sea conditions have been very calm, and underwater visibility is variable, but one diver did tell me of the best visibility he has ever encountered, at around 35 meters. Klong Plu waterfall still has a good flow, and the plunge pools are full enough for you to take a cooling swim. Our latest weather comment on 09 Feb 2010 @ 15:13: Partly clouding in the morning, but clearing to give hazy sunshine from a clear sky later in the day. A moderate wind with slightly choppy sea close to shore and feeling quite humid.

Yesterday, close to the shore at the end of Chai Chet Beach, I spotted this stingray slowing crusing in the warm shallow waters. As it happens, the water was not too clear yesterday. Today it's a lot clearer.

Let us arrange your private transfer from Koh Chang to Bangkok (or to anywhere), or to Koh Chang from your origin, and make a stop at Laem Sing for your once in a lifetime dolphin swim. Laem Sing is around 50 minutes drive from the pier for Koh Chang, and dolphin swims are scheduled throughout the day, so this is a great option for those who do not wish to make the day trip to Laem Sing during their stay on Koh Chang. The price for this option is 580 Baht per person for the swim and show. Your transfer price will depend upon the size of your group.

Just opened are the new water-side luxury bungalows at the Chai Chet Resort at the North end of Klong Prao Beach. These are going for 3,800 baht per night. Yesterday I went over there and took a few photos. Unique in a way, you can experience sunrise from your bedroom and private terrace, and sunset from your bathroom.

Saw our next door neighbour (Sony the owner of King Tailors) escorting a load of guests off a speedboat that had just arrived at Chai Chet. Wondered if he was now in the tour business; well not really - it turned out that the guests were holidaying at Klong Yai, on the mainland near the Cambodian border. They had asked around for a good tailor, and Sony had been recommended to them. So, they organised a speedboat for a trip from Klong Yai to Chai Chet and Sony's shop. So, if that appeals to anyone, you can now make your mandatory tailors visit in combination with a speedboat ride! Seriously (possibly) if you're staying at an out of the way place, and want to visit one of the best tailors on Koh Chang (and one of the nicest people), then please let us know and we'll arrange your 2-way trips to Sony's shop, by road, or by speedboat.

Coco Dee Bo Tours have been in operation on Koh Chang since 2005. We have 2 shops, where we offer all of the available tours around Koh Chang, as well as providing high speed internet access and other computer services. We can make your hotel bookings around Koh Chang, on the neighbouring islands, and throughout Thailand, including Bangkok. We aim to give our customers impartial advice and accurate information prior to selling any tour or service. For example, owing to the arduous conditions on the Cambodian roads, we would advise against any family with very small children from going to Angkor Wat at Siem Reap in Cambodia.

We also have high speed internet with WiFi access, so from your own spot on the beach near our shop you can browse the internet and check your email from your own notebook computer. English, Thai and French languages are spoken by the owner Bo, and Colin, so you can be sure of no mis-understandings at the time of your booking. Please email us for price quotation. Prices quoted here include breakfast, and are the normal year-round walk-in rates. We can usually offer you a discount on these. 700 Baht bungalows do not include breakfast.

Inside our 2 shops we have internet cafes with up to 8 modern desktop computers and TFT monitors and we also have a WiFi access point so you can use your own notebook computer from the beach close to our shop, or from the surroundings of our shop on the road. Our internet connections run at a speed of up to 2 Megabits per second, and our customers often comment that our connection speed and reliability far exceeds any others they have experienced on the island. This is maybe because we have SHDSL lines which have much lower contention than ADSL lines and much faster upstream speeds. This means your video call to your friends at home should be much clearer in sound and vision. If you bring your own notebook computer, then we can give you wireless access to our internet connection, either by the hour, or by the day, or we can give you open access for your entire stay. Attached to our computers are webcams and audio equipment, and in conjuction with the Skype, Messenger, and Voipbuster applications you can easily keep in touch with your friends and family at home. We also have some small notebook computers for rent.
