Between April and October, Koh Chang is susceptible to the monsoon winds and rains and the associated high seas. Consequently, many of the snorkelling and diving boats retire, or return to their traditional occupations such as fishing. Some of the owners of the boats return to their home region in Thailand or outside the kingdom. So, what is there to do on Koh Chang during this low season? Here are a few suggestions:
Elephant trekking
Visit waterfalls
Ecology trip to Trat mainland
Around Koh Chang day trip with Kayaks in the mangroves, Rubber Plantation and Coconut garden
Swim with dolphins
Cambodia package trips
Evening "firefly" cruise by small boat in the mangroves
Snorkelling - At least one company is open for day trips to the surrounding islands. Weather permitting. Private boats for hire also
Fishing - One company runs throughout the low season for day and night fishing, weather permitting
Scuba Diving - A few companies run throughout the low season, again, weather conditions permitting

The weather is not like the images depict every day! The sea returns to clear water a following a couple of days with less rain, and to the south of Koh Chang it is still possible to do some reasonable snorkelling and diving with the companies that operate throughout the season. Summer 2007 has been relatively good with many sunny days and more dry days than wet days. View the weather images for some idea about conditions over the past few months.
Early September 2007 has seen some glorious sunny weather and little rain, as evidenced by this picture of a deserted Klong Prao Beach taken on 9/9/2007. Snorkellers taking the 4 islands day trip have reported good visibility off the small islands to the south of Koh Chang.
