Weather Report
A month has passed since our previous weather update, as we have been away from Koh Chang for much of July. The early part of the month saw some mixed weather, with seasonal amounts of rain, but on the whole it was not too bad. The second 2 weeks saw one good spell of a few days, but either side of that there was loads of rain, but this fell mostly at night time. An improvement today, hence the visit down to the beach to take the snapshot. Torrential rain seemed to be falling for all of last night, so there was a fair bit of damage and drifted sand down at the beach. Like today, when the sun comes out, the temperature is reaching around 33C, but during the rain it struggles to reach 25C. Beware, there have been very strong rip-tides recently, and sadly a couple of drownings occurred last week. An improvement yesterday and today; the sea was calm enough for some decent snorkeling trips, with wave heights of about one meter (in the open sea). For a more detailed weather history please look at our daily weather reports which we have been writing since October 2009.
If you're thinking of coming to Koh Chang in the next few days, then look for yourself through our webcam for the weather as it is right now, and view the weather images page for an idea about weather on Koh Chang in the recent past. Our weather report and forecast page now contains our own daily weather updates, 4 hourly weather recordings from the Trat station of the Thai Meteorological Department, as well as the current 10 day forecast from MSN.
The season
European school holiday time, and July and August does produce a mini-peak in what is generally the low season on Koh Chang (though we should call that the green season). Last weekend was an important Buddhist festival, and the island was very busy. Good waterfalls of course at this time of year, and everywhere does look so much greener now. All activities and tours (even snorkeling and diving) are available now - please come to see us when you're on the island and we'll show you what's available and what's a worthwhile outing. Here you can read all of our previous weather summaries and news items.
