Weather Report

What early September in Koh Chang can be like - Klong Prao Beach Sept 2007During the first week of September we have seen a lot of very heavy rain. On some days, rain has persisted for much of the daylight hours. Today and yesterday have been cloudy with a little drizzle, so the rain seems to have eased off a bit.

According to the Thai Met Office, in Trat Province, there was 1130 mm of rain in the first 7 days of September. Compared to the whole of August which I reported as 330 mm, with figures taken from the Thai Met Offiice, this seems like a lot of rain. It approximates to the UK annual average rainfall, and it's almost 25% of the years total for Trat so far. Let's hope September and beyond become drier!

The accompanying picture was taken exactly 2 years ago. Any picture taken in the last week would be too depressing.

Daytime temperatures are usually around 30 degrees, when not raining, and in the evening quite pleasant at around 23 degrees. At night time, around 19 degrees, or even lower following rainfall.

It has been quite windy over the past few days. Seas onshore and offshore have been choppy. Some people have been successfully surfing off Klong Prao Beach. Do take care if swimming off Whitesands or Klong Prao beaches, stong undertows have caused drownings in the past.

Have removed the Qwikcast weather gadget and replaced it with one from Weather Undergound which reports for Trat, or Chantaburi or Rayong, if Trat is not reporting. If you're thinking of coming to Koh Chang in the next few days, then look for yourself through our webcam for the weather as it is right now, and view the weather images page for an idea about weather on Koh Chang in the recent past. MSN's weather forecast for Trat and Koh Chang seems to be reasonably accurate, and can be found here

Despite the rainfall, our shop on the beach is usually open from 8am until 8pm, and the beach front webcam is now usually on-line, rainfall permitting.

Some rainfall figures, from the Trat observation station. Data from the Thai Meteorological Department.

Dolphin Swim - Book early

Many are disappointed when trying to book the Dolphin Swin at Laem Sing because at busy periods it can be fully booked. To make sure you get to do this once-in-a-lifetime activity, then please try to give us around 10 days notice. If that means contacting us before you arrive on Koh Chang, then please do so via our contact page. Notice, and with apologies, Oasis Seaworld will not be doing the SWIM with Dolphins until later in 2011 - precise date not given by Oasis. They are, though, open for the show only during this time, and we are still taking bookings for the show.
