Warning! - This trip is not for the faint hearted. You must be reasonably fit, as there is a significant amount of climbing on some very unstable surfaces. Having said that, this is a fantastic trip! There is no easy start, as you enter the lush tropical rainforest almost immediately, having left the drop-off point in White Sands. If you have never been in a tropical rainforest, then you will be astounded by the variety of tropical fauna and flora. Two guides accompany you on this trip and they are extremely knowledgable, as well as being fleet of foot. Look out for the Thai Black Tarantula, a particularly aggressive species of the family. Their nests, constructed on the ground, are a feat of engineering! If you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of the Great Hornbill rare bird. Jom-2 is approximately 622 meters above sea-level and is located towards the northern end of Koh Chang. Apparently, the mountain is named after it's shape - it looks very much like an ant's nest, with steep sides and a slightly domed top. Some wise words regarding this trip! - Drink at least a litre of water before you go. Take at least four litres of water with you and some high carbohydrate food, bananas are ideal. Walking shoes or boots are the best footware for this trip. Sports shoes or trainers will suffice, but be wary that they lack the grip of walking shoes or boots.
