You asked for it - now you have it. A decent trail has now been marked to allow you to cross the island from coast to coast in one day. It's a long day though; you'll be away for around 11 hours, with at least 8 of those hours being on the move on foot. Starting close to Klong Plu waterfall on the west coast of the island, you'll pass that and ascend further to around 500 meters above sea level. You'll then follow the course of the Than Mayom stream hopefully seeing loads of wildlife including the odd cobra. Hard work it is, but there should be plenty of opportunity to stop and relax in the cooling water of the Than Mayom river. Stunning views to be had also. The trek finishes at the Than Mayom waterfall on the East coast of the island, from where the taxi will return you to your resort by around 6pm.
The group size is limited to about 6 people, so you'll be well taken care of by the experienced guide. You'll be picked up by taxi at around 7:30am, you'll be provided with mosquito repellent, drinking water, and lunch, and the national park entry fee is also included in the price of 1,200 Baht. Good quality, waterproof, walking shoes are recommended. Expect to encounter some harsh, prickly, vegetation. Not recommended for children under the age of 15, and you should be used to walking in rough terrains.
